Wild Animals : I was very lucky to have encountered many wild animals, big and small. Photographing them is not always easy. Often during an encounter I had my 17-40mm lens on, and had to scramble to put the 28-135mm lens on in a hurry. Because of that I was not able to get a good shot of some small but weary animals such as chipmunk and marmot. Fortunately my favorite wilde animal in the Canadian Rockies is the golden-mantled ground squirrel. They seem to enjoy posing for tourists. I got several nice shots of them. I also got very close to bighorn sheeps. On my last day I encountered several black bears, and a grizzly bear. The encounter with the grizzly was a close call --- for the bear. He made a sudden jump onto the middle of the highway and I was inches away from running over him with my car. Unfortunately I did not have time to photograph him, as he quickly ran into the woods.

Scenery : In May 2004 I want to Banff again to attend a workshop on aperiodic orders and quasicrystals. Upgraded from my point and shoot Canon Powershot G1 point-and-shoot camera to the digital SLR Canon EOS 10D, I was attracted to the workshop as much for its stimulating mathematics as the opportunity to take a few more pictures. Among the participants were Bob Moody and Victor Sirvent, both very accomplished photographers and very good friends of mine. The three of us made several trips to near by locations. But unlike the first time, this trip was much shorter and with the workshop from 9 to 5, it was hard to find time to do a lot of photography. Nevertheless, I did have some photos to show you.
